Hearing God and Stewarding What you Hear

Do we value God’s voice and what He is trying to speak to us? Do we honor and place importance upon hearing from Him? If we are faithful with money for example, He gives us more. Then I would like to ask you, “If we are faithful with hearing His word, and are faithful with those words He gives us, would He give us more words?” Notice what Jesus said in Mark 4:24, “And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.” (AMP)

Jesus is taking about what you hear. This is used in reference to stewardship. But He is talking about hearing and hearing comes by listening for His words.

He is saying to us that we need to be a good steward with what we hear. If we are a good steward with what we hear, then we will hear more. But if not, He will take away what we have. Remember also that faith comes by hearing. Do you feel you don’t have faith? Check into what you are hearing and how you are listening and if you value the Word.  Then ask yourself what you are or what you have done with what you heard from Him.  If the answer is nothing, then go back and do something about what you already heard.  If you don’t remember, then ask Him to repeat what He said to you.

In Luke 8:18 it says almost the same thing except it says to take heed how you listen. “Be careful therefore how you listen. For to him who has [spiritual knowledge] will more be given; and from him who does not have [spiritual knowledge], even what he thinks and guesses and supposes that he has will be taken away.” (AMP) You receive according to how you value what you hear and how you listen to the Word. This isn’t always talked about or taught.

When God speaks to us we need to take notice of how we steward His word and make sure we receive His word into good soil. Having good soil would be to receive His word with meekness. See James 1:21b, “receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.” and with a humble tender heart as in 2 Chronicles 34:27, “Because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the LORD.”

What you are willing to invest in will bring you a blessing in return. To invest in the word of God by purchasing Bible based teachings through books, CD’s, and classes is stewarding well what you are planting into your soil.  The crop that will produce must come from within you.  What you produce will be based upon what you have planted into your heart by what you listened to from one of two kingdoms.  God places investments into you.  We choose what to do with words that come to us to be planted.

We don’t consider ourselves as a field for planting and producing.  For example, we think nothing about spending ten to thirty dollars to see a movie and go out to eat, but if a quality book or CD set costs thirty dollars we may think it’s to much to spend. Yet which is going to be the greater investment for a greater return of blessing into our lives? We spend our money on everything else and don’t think twice about it, yet when we’re asked to spend it on teachings, or books that would bring the word of God into us, we say, we can’t afford it. We have to begin to think about investing into ourselves and our children, basing it on what is going to yield the greater return from our investment for our lives.
